CO2 in a changing ocean

The ocean absorbs a quarter of humanity's CO2 emissions each year. We monitor this uptake, investigating its drivers and impacts. We study how CO2 shifts the balance of chemical equilibria in seawater — with important consenquences for marine life.

As part of the Department of Ocean Systems, we are based at the NIOZ Royal Netherlands Insitute for Sea Research site on the beautiful Wadden Island of Texel.
